Dave Nachmanoff: News
New Stuff on davenachextras.com - August 16, 2008
Summer is winding down, and the summer sale on some of my CDs will be over at the end of this month. I've been doing a lot of outdoor shows with Al Stewart and some fun house concerts. There are fresh video clips and songs on the new
www.davenachextras.com site, so check it out if you haven't had a chance. Al's new CD is out now and available from CDBaby! And finally, Al and I are are gearing up for our European tour coming up this Fall (for details see
www.davenach.eu)!
Spring is Here! - May 6, 2008
It's been about 6 months since I've updated this section - hmmm... and just over 6 months since Django was born. Lots to report, but I can't fit it all here. More stuff happening on the web - YouTube, MySpace, Facebook (see the Links page for details). Lots of touring since October. Finished the Silcocks 2nd CD "Team Silcock" and working on a 3rd! New photos on the photo page... Gearing up for a European tour in October and November (Germany and Holland). I feel so fortunate to be able to keep making music and to have so many wonderful friends around the world.
Benjamin Django Nachmanoff has arrived! - October 17, 2007
Sophia is now a big sister! Benjamin Django Nachmanoff (known as "Django" to us) was born Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 1:37 pm PDT. At 19 inches long, he weighed in at 6 lbs, 13 oz.
Jen and Django are doing great! Thanks to everyone for all the good thoughts and wishes. And thanks very much for the wonderful gifts! But we have enough "stuff" here in Nachville -- so buy my CD's instead! :o)
For those who like looking at pictures of babies - you can scan to the bottom my photo page now and see a few pics of the little guy... If you don't like that sort of thing, just don't scroll down that far!
Fall is here! - September 29, 2007
Just sent out the Fall newsletter, and will probably be posting a new message here soon so I'll keep it brief. We are waiting for the arrival of our second child, and when the baby arrives, I will post an announcement here for those who are interested and probably put a picture or two in the gallery.
As for music news - I'll be back out touring with Al Stewart in late October (Northwest US), and mid November (Northeast US) and have some cool local shows coming up (Northern, CA). Been doing some more custom songs for people, but would love to do more, as it can be done without travel. Recently reconnected with a number of former bandmates from years ago, all of whom are still doing music in some form! Just started getting more active with a "MySpace" site -
www.myspace.com/davenach. Hope that your summer was great!
Summer in our Little College Town - June 30, 2007
As the song says "It's summer in our little college town." The big news here is that Jen is pregnant and due in October! I've been busy in the studio, mostly working on custom songs and producing some CDs for other people. Al Stewart and I had a grueling but wonderful tour back in April. Jen and I got to hear and hang out with Alan Parsons recently (see photos at the bottom of the photo page). My friend Michael Jerome, who played many of the wonderful drum and percussion parts on "Time Before the Fall" is back touring and recording with Richard Thompson now. Brother Jeffrey is in the early stages of a new movie, and brother Michael is about to argue before the US Supreme Court! Ben Decter and I have continued our collaborations on a second kid's CD and some other music as well. My daughter Sophia starts kindergarten in the Fall... So life continues to be in motion all around, and for that I'm grateful.
Early 2007 - Time at home. - March 2, 2007
Well, after a busy Fall season, it's been nice having a little time here in Nachville. I've upgraded the studio and have been doing some recording (check out the new custom songs on my music page, written with Bruce Kalter). Spent a great week at Pioneer Elementary writing songs with 3rd graders, and squeezed in some Northern, CA shows as well. St. Patrick's Day is coming and I will be back at the Irish Pub, then out to Vegas for my first house concert in Nevada, and a show with Al Stewart! April will be a busy touring month (East Coast, US and Canada), and Spring will be here before we know it. The response to the new CD has been great (see cdbaby.com/cd/nachmanoff8 for some reviews), and it has been a pleasure to share the new songs live.
NEW CD! TIME BEFORE THE FALL! - October 24, 2006
Whoo hoo! I'm very excited to announce that I have a brand new CD out called "Time Before the Fall." It was recorded in Los Angeles in September and contains 12 new original songs. This is the first one since "A Certain Distance" to be made up of all my own songs... My good friend Ben Decter produced it and did an incredible job (you may remember his excellent work as my partner on "Another Big Day"). There are some special guests helping out but I handled all the guitar, piano and bass myself. It's a somewhat darker collection than I've ever done, and I'm very pleased with the way it's come out. It will be available on the European tour, and in a week or so on CDbaby.com.
Summertime in Davis - June 13, 2006
I'm mostly home over this summer - enjoying some time with my family and concentrating on various studio projects. A new fan-group has been formed on "Yahoo" (
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/davenach) and a possible European website (
www.davenach.eu) is being created in Germany... Al Stewart and I will be featured on XM Radio in July on a show called "The Loft," and of course I am looking forward to the big adventure in Europe this fall!
Spring is here! - April 19, 2006
It's been awhile since I added anything here, mostly because the first part of 2006 has been full of constant touring with Al Stewart! Juggling that with family life and recording commitments hasn't left me much time for news updates. However, lots is going on. Al is in great form and we are gearing up for a big European tour in the Fall (see gig schedule for dates). "Wordless Rhymes" has been getting some nice feedback from people and continues to sell very well. I'm working on a new CD for the Silcock family which we hope to have out sometime later this year... Jen has just started selling some of her pottery through the Crocker gallery in Sacramento, and Sophia is getting pretty sophisticated, rhyming "felicity" with "electricity." Hopefully, by the time she's in kindergarten she'll be ready to take over from me and I'll retire!
Happy Holidays to all - November 30, 2005
Well, 2005 is almost over and it's been "another big year." The new instrumental CD, "Wordless Rhymes" came out in October and has been selling well at concerts and also through the website. People from as far as Australia, Japan and Majorca have taken it into their homes! I will be back at the Palms (our local listening room) with Al Stewart on December 15 and hope to see some old and new friends there. The UK tour during October was fantastic, with a sold out night at the Barbican probably the highlight. Peter White came and played with us, and it was a real pleasure to share the stage with him. A short trip to the East Coast is coming up in early December, and then another trip to the East Coast at the end of January. Many of you have hired me to write custom songs for relatives and loved-ones, and I hope to do more of that work in 2006. Thanks to all who helped make this such a great year. Have a happy New Year wherever you are!
New CD to be released Oct. 1st! - August 26, 2005
Finally finished work on the new CD, "Wordless Rhymes." It is a collection of songs by Al Stewart, interpreted instrumentally and often radically rearranged. My acoustic lead guitar is the main "voice" but there are some wonderful supporting players, including a brief appearance by Al himself playing lead guitar! It should be available October 1st, and I will offer a special "preorder" deal up until that date. All shipping will be free (US orders only). Also, until October 1st, if you order 10 or more copies - shipping will be free and the price goes down from $15 to $10 per CD! To order, send a check to PO BOX 4111, Davis, CA 95617, with shipping instructions.
In other news, I have some "local" shows coming up both with Al and on my own. See the calendar page for details. Sept. 17 I'm in Auburn, CA at the UU church doing a solo concert, Sept. 24th I'm playing with Al in Alamo, CA, and on Dec. 15th I'll be back at the Palms in Winters, CA, also with Al (and opening).
Finally, my friend Judith Kate Friedman, who does wonderful songwriting with elders, is organizing a Festival in the SF Bay Area all about creativity and elders. For more info check out
www.songwritingworks.com/Festival.
Summer news - July 13, 2005
Sorry this has been neglected for a little while now - but I've simply been too busy travelling, peforming and recording to spend much time at my computer... Much of the recent travel has been touring with Al Stewart (see
www.alstewart.com) who has a brand new CD out! I've also been doing some songwriter-in-residence work (see
www.doctordavesongs.com for more on that), and a lot of custom songs. I'll be in Southern, CA, AZ, TX, Canada, and the UK in the coming months, and am hard at work on my very first instrumental CD, due out in September or October. See the "Calendar Dates" schedule for details.
First Newsletter since the new Website! - March 22, 2005
Lots of exciting stuff going on in Nachville - finally got the website doing most of what I'd like it to do (thanks Hostbaby!). If you are not on the mailing list, but would like to be, it's now very easy to sign up from the front page. I've been home doing studio work for several months, but have some interesting travels coming up, including the Northeast, Southwest, Midwest and Northwest, and even the MidAtlantic, all in a few months. Keep your eye on the schedule here for new developments.
New Updated Website! - February 10, 2005
After several years of great help from my good friend Bob Singer, I'm finally taking charge of my own website. The wonderful folks at Hostbaby.com have set up a system so that even a clueless musician like myself can build a website! The other big news is that I now have a *second* website, just for my songwriting workshops - which can be found at
www.doctordavesongs.com
