Lyrics

Dry River Valley
Words & Music by Dave Nachmanoff
Copyright 1982

The houses are boarded and shuttered
All down the main street
And the paint is cracked off and peeling
Absorbing the heat
The Texaco sign still creaks
Like it has done for years
But it’s drowned by the sound of the insects
That still rings in your ears

CHORUS:

Welcome to Dry River Valley, population “one”
The snakes and the lizards lie out on their rocks
In the noonday sun
It’s the place you’ll go to, when there’s nowhere else to run
Dry River Valley, population “one”

She sits on the porch beside you
You sip lemonade
Talking of friends from your childhood
And plans you had made
A house in the country
With horses and flowers and fields
You turn around; she’s gone
And you know, she wasn’t real

(Chorus)

The sun’s sinking slowly out west
Behind purple clouds
Then moon’s hanging over the desert
And the stars are coming out
You walk back inside and yawn
As you poke at the fire
And you pull the blanket up close ‘round your throat
As the flames climb higher

(Chorus)
