Lyrics

Rude Awakening
Dave Nachmanoff

On the 2-train, riding home, to the place where you were living
Packed together, still alone, wondering if you’d been forgiven
There’s a note there on the door, says she doesn’t like goodbyes
It may take a rude awakening, to open up your eyes

Well the ticker-tape rolled by, the numbers always higher
All the doubters and Cassandras, you simply had them fired
But they’ve pierced the corporate veil, and soon they’ll cut you down to size
It may take a rude awakening, to open up your eyes

Bridge:

But you never watched the weather, checked the augurs or the signs
Didn’t find you daily horoscope, or try to read between the lines
No the moment is upon you, and it cannot be denied
It may take a rude awakening, to open up your eyes

On the fringes of our conscience, we know that we’ve done wrong
They say power will corrupt, but somehow we’ve grown too strong
And the coming storm will wash away all the secrets and the lies
It may take a rude awakening, to open up our eyes

(repeat bridge as “our” instead of “your”)
