Lyrics

Thunder Bay

Words & Music by Dave Nachmanof

Well it’s another night at Scotty’s Pub, we’ve got hockey on TV
There’s a player on ice, he just lost his fight, I’ll bet he feels a lot like me
I’ve been frozen cold and my hearts been broke, in this icy Northern town
There’s no work here in the winter, when the shipping gets shut down

CHORUS:

Oh Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay
I’ve got to get away from Thunder Bay

Oh I met her in New Orleans, she said I swept her off her feet
We were dancing to the Neville’s, in a club on Bourbon Street
But those summer days, magnolia haze, came quickly to an end
She caught a boat back up towards Canada, she might not be back again

(CHORUS)

I guess I couldn’t stand to lose her, said goodbye to all I’ve known
Packed my bags and headed northwards, straight off to the unknown

We got married in the Springtime, I got a job there on the docks
Until the day I woke to find her gone, she left a letter in the box
Her gypsy heart was being torn apart, from staying in one place
I shouldn’t bother trying to find her, she left no other trace

And now I can’t afford the plane fare home, but I know I oughta go
Her heart was as cold as that frozen bay, but sometimes I still hope
I often dream of New Orleans, and that balmy Gulf Coast breeze
If there’s still a chance that she’ll come back, I know I’ll never leave

(CHORUS)
